It’s a little dry, but here is a video of Tim Brick, Chairman of the Board of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, detailing the effects of climate change on our water resources.
Takeaway: Water supply is expected to decrease by up to 10% in certain warming scenarios. Here’s a shocker, 19% of state’s electricity output is gobbled up by water management, delivery, and treatment. Any increase in water productivity will reduce our GHG emission levels, and those could be significant.

The San Francisco Public Utilities Comission governs our residential water and water treatment. They have many waste water treatment plants in San Francisco, with two open for tours on a monthly basis.
In support of the upcoming event on Water Management, I will be organizing trip to the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant in the Outer Sunset on September 8th, 10:00AM. Biofuel production is hot topic these days, both domestically and around the world. However, a recent study indicates that Biofuel production in poor water scarce countries may have severe negative impacts on water supply.
In India, the Linking of Rivers of project are designed to transfer water to water poor areas to support water intense agriculture. Indian sugarcane is 100% irrigated, the main biofuel crop for ethanol production. The amount of water evaporated is 3500 liters per liter of ethanol.
